Rory Fitzgerald has been a volunteer with Samaritans Waterford and South East since 2010. Rory has been Regional Treasurer for Samaritans in Ireland for the last two years and now has been selected to be Regional Director for the Republic of Ireland commencing on 4th May for the next three years.
The role means Rory will be responsible for Samaritans’ 13 branches throughout the country and the deliverance of our critical listening service whereby we support anyone going through an emotional crisis. It will involve areas such as training as we do same in-house, funding, recruitment of volunteers and linking with our eight staff in Usher’s Quay who deal with many other aspects of the organisation.
Samaritans have 1,500 volunteers in its branches with 117 in the Waterford branch. The role will also involve being part of a team with the Regional Directors from Northern Ireland, Scotland, Wales and England whereby this group have influence in policies and implementation of same.
