Walsh’s Bakehouse, Home of the Waterford Blaa is delighted to announce a new retail partnership with over 90 SuperValu Stores and distributor Irish Pride/Pat the Baker. As of Monday, 11th of November, Fresh Waterford Blaas will be available daily in over 90 Supervalu Store across Munster and South Leinster.
Announcing the partnership, Walsh’s Bakehouse MD, Dermot Walsh says he is delighted to see the Waterford Blaa more widely available. “For years, customers have been asking where outside Waterford, they could buy Blaas. Having successfully completed the SuperValu Food Academy programme, we are now in a position to deliver fresh Blaas Daily, with our partners (and Blaa enthusiasts!) Irish Pride/Pat the Baker, to over 90 SuperValu Stores in Cork, Kerry, Clare, Carlow, Wexford, Kilkenny, Laois, Offaly, Tipperary and Limerick.”
This traditional bread roll is so versatile, making a delicious Breakfast Roll, a satisfying lunchtime sandwich and the Blaa make the Best Burgers! The Waterford Blaa is available in the Bakery section, pre-packed and comes in three sizes, small (6), medium (4) and large (4).
The move comes following significant investment in a state-of-the-art Bakery in Waterford City, and the creation of 10 new jobs as a result. This third-generation bakery, run by brothers Dermot and Michael Walsh, is almost 100 years old. The business currently supplies the major Food Service distributors in Ireland, UK, Germany and France.
The Waterford Blaa received PGI Status from the EU in 2013, which legally protects the blaa’s unique heritage and cultural status. The likes of French Champagne and Parma Ham enjoy the same protection.
