Bausch + Lomb has sponsored a mobile computer system for Mount Sion CBS Secondary School, Waterford, which allows classrooms other than the school’s two permanent computer rooms, to operate as high technology learning centres. The presentation of the information technology suite marks the beginning of a new partnership between the company and the school.
New principal at Mount Sion, Edward Kennedy, said he was very pleased to see the formal launch of the new partnership with Bausch + Lomb.
“I have been involved in similar programmes with other companies and I am acutely aware of the many benefits that it will have for the students,” said Mr Kennedy.
“Students will have a great opportunity to learn job-seeking skills and to explore different careers possibilities by talking to employees in Bausch + Lomb. I am also very pleased with the generous donation by the company of a full classroom set of Chromebook computers and trolley. This will give increased access to information technology for all students and will also greatly assist teachers in their endeavours to be as inclusive as possible in the classrooms.”
Frank Galvin, design, communication and graphics teacher at Mount Sion, said: “I would like to thank Bausch + Lomb, especially Shirley Russell and Peter Walsh, for developing this partnership with Mount Sion CBS. Bausch + Lomb initially participated in our Careers Fair, in which they met and advised over 400 students from Mount Sion primary and secondary schools in relation to further education and planning of their careers. This has been immensely beneficial to all students and our partnership has now grown.
“We were delighted that Bausch + Lomb could present us with a new set of Chromebooks and Chromebook trolley which will act as a mobile classroom. This is extremely beneficial in completing classroom-based assessments of Junior Cert and Leaving Certificate projects. I look forward to a growing and deepening partnership with the company and its employees.”
Mark Hennessy, site lead, Bausch + Lomb, said the company has close links with Mt Sion CBS and many of its past pupils are current employees of the company.
“I look forward to expanding the partnership, which I believe will be of mutual benefit to the school, the students and to Bausch + Lomb,” he added.
