Tom Murphy Volkswagen assists in keeping Waterford beautiful

Tom Murphy Volkswagen has joined up with The Granville Hotel, Austin Gleeson our Volkswagen brand ambassador and eight local clubs to clean up eight litter black spots in our city with the aim of assisting Waterford retain its title of Ireland’s cleanest city as awarded in the 2017 & 2018 Anti-Litter League by Irish Business Against Litter (IBAL).

This is the 2nd year of the event with last year’s being a great success as the title of Ireland’s cleanest city was retained by Waterford. Erins Own were the overall winners of the Street Clean.

Tom Murphy Volkswagen & the Granville hotel will provide eight local sporting clubs a set of jerseys each to clean a specified area marked as a litter black spot. The chosen clubs will each be assigned an area to tidy, and the first clean ups to take place this week and the 2nd clean ups to take place 3rd week of August.

Judging takes place after the final clean up in August. Waterford Council will supply bags, litter pickers, gloves etc, so clubs don’t need to bring anything.

“We are with the Granville hotel & Austin Gleeson delighted to be involved with this endeavour to keep Waterford beautiful. This is our 2nd year organising the event, we managed to help retain the title last year but Waterford has since dropped several places so as a community we need to help solve this litter problem. Every litter helps,” said Tom Murphy, Volkswagen Dealer Principal.

The overall awards will be held in Tom Murphy Volkswagen at a date to be determined.
